LOOKING AHEAD:
Two of the AHL's best teams in recent history meet up at the Blue Cross Arena on Friday as Rochester hosts Philadelphia... The Amerks and Phantoms have combined for eight division titles since 1996-97, and both are among the AHL's elite again in 2004-05... Rochester is 18-3-1-2 since Nov. 26, while Philadelphia is sub-.500 (7-8-2-4) since its AHL-record 17-game winning streak was snapped on Nov. 28... Ryan Miller is tied for the AHL lead with 21 victories for the Amerks, who have won seven in a row at home... Antero Niittymaki is winless in his last seven outings (0-3-4) for the East-leading Phantoms.

Grand Rapids tries to end a pair of seven-game home losing streaks – one overall and one against Chicago – as the Wolves visit Van Andel Arena on Friday night... The Griffins are in a 1-10-0-1 rut and have fallen into a three-way tie for third place in the West Division, 11 points behind second-place Chicago... Defenseman Niklas Kronwall continues to lead Grand Rapids with 21 assists and 30 points this season... Including the 2004 Calder Cup Playoffs, Wolves goalie Kari Lehtonen is 9-2-0 in his last 11 starts against the Griffins.

St. John's and Binghamton head to the Corel Centre on Saturday in another AHL version of the Battle of Ontario... The Maple Leafs swept a pair of meetings in Toronto last month, but the Senators enter the weekend 13-5-1-0 since then... St. John's, in Syracuse on Friday night, was 5-2-0-0 to start its 12-game road trip... Denis Hamel had seven goals and seven assists in his previous seven games through Thursday, but no points in three games against the Leafs this year... Matt Stajan (2g, 2a), Kyle Wellwood (1g, 3a) and David Ling (3a) combined for 11 points in the Leafs' 4-2 win at Hershey on Wednesday.
