LOOKING AHEAD:
After a 4-8-0-0 road trip, San Antonio returns to the SBC Center on Friday night to host Houston (7:00 CT). The Rampage, who have dropped five in a row by an aggregate score of 24-8, enter the weekend four points out of a playoff spot in the West Division, but have 25 games remaining over the final 45 days of the season, more than any other team in the AHL. The season series between the Texas rivals is even at 2-2-2, but Eric Beaudoin and Mike Green, who have combined for 15 points against the Aeros this season, are both on recall to Florida. Eighteen-year-old Brent Burns, Minnesota's first-round pick in the 2003 draft, recorded an assist in his AHL debut with Houston on Thursday.
Norfolk hosts Binghamton for critical games at Scope on Friday and Saturday (7:30 ET), with the Admirals clinging to a one-point lead over the fifth-place Senators in the East Division coming in. Norfolk has won nine of its last 11 and is 10-3-1-0 since a Jan. 22 announcement that the team is up for sale. The Sens are mired in a six-game road winless streak (0-4-2-0) and have been shut out three times in the last eight games, but they still lead the Eastern Conference with 160 goals scored. Binghamton goaltender Ray Emery's goals against average is more than a full goal lower on the road (1.75) than at home (2.79) this season, but the second-year pro is just 6-7-4 on foreign ice.
In other action around the AHL this weekend, Portland takes a 14-game points streak (6-0-5-3) up north to battle St. John's on Friday and Saturday (7:35 NT, 6:05 ET)... Grand Rapids puts its 15-game home unbeaten streak on the line against Chicago on Friday (7:30 ET, 6:30 CT) before Philadelphia visits on Sunday (4:00 ET)... Unbeaten in eight (7-0-1-0), Hartford takes on the bottom two teams in the Atlantic, with a home-and-home against Springfield sandwiched around a date with Lowell... Cincinnati and Cleveland duel in a Buckeye battle at Gund Arena on Sunday (5:00 ET)... The HSBC Arena in Buffalo plays host to the Rochester Americans and Syracuse Crunch on Sunday evening (6:00 ET).
