Mississippi Braves News Release

GREENVILLE, SC -- For the second straight night, the Greenville Braves' bats sizzled and the starting pitching was outstanding as the G-Braves knocked off the Orlando Rays 7-0 Thursday evening at Greenville Municipal Stadium. Starter Ray Aguilar (1-4) stifled the Rays all night long going seven innings and allowing only five hits en-route to the first "AA" win of his career.

The G-Braves jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third off of Rays starter Scott Autrey (2-3). James Jurries smacked a one-out double into the gap in left-center and came in to score on a Jason Fitzgerald single.

Greenville extended its advantage with a pair of runs in the fourth. Ramon Castro got things started with a double, and he slid home safely on a Richard Lewis RBI hit. With two down, Charles Thomas picked up a single, an RBI, and the G-Braves' longest hitting streak of the season at 13 games.

A Cory Aldridge two-run bomb deep to right in the fifth gave the home team a five run cushion. In the sixth, Fitzgerald drove J.C. Boscan home for his 39th RBI of the year, and Lewis hit a solo shot in the next frame for his second homerun in as many games.

Roman Colon and Billy Sylvester went the final two innings to preserve the shutout.
