AKRON -- The Akron Aeros won the title of Southern Division Eastern League Champions for the third consecutive season and clinched a spot in the Eastern League Championship Series with a big 8-6 win over the Erie SeaWolves Saturday night at Canal Park. The Aeros, who will make their fourth trip in five seasons to the EL Championship Series, were held quiet until the fourth inning when their bats exploded for eight runs over the next three innings.

Michael Aubrey belted a two-run homer to straight-away center field in the fourth and hit another two-run bomb to close out a five-run inning in the fifth. Rodney Choy Foo began the rally with a single, while Wyatt Toregas, Trevor Crowe and Jordan Brown all followed suit before Aubrey hit his second homer of the night. Stephen Head hit is third homer of the playoffs with a solo-shot in the sixth to cap the scoring.

Erie did not go away quietly as Mike Hollimon came back in the fifth with a two-run homer to bring the SeaWolves lead back to four, but that ended their scoring for the night as Akron claimed the lead in the bottom of the inning and turned to the bullpen to close the series.

Bobby Brownlie picked up the win as he threw five innings of work allowing all six runs of the game (three earned). He struck out five and did not walk a batter, giving up six hits. Jim Ed Warden closed out the game allowing no hits in the ninth and picking up his second save of the playoffs.

The Aeros will play the Trenton Thunder, who won the title of Northern Division champs by defeating Portland 4-0 on Saturday night, to take the best of five series 3 games to 1. The series begins at Trenton on Tuesday for games one and two, while Akron is tentatively scheduled to return home for games three, four and five on Thursday, Friday and Saturday unless a travel day is put in place for Thursday.

Playoff tickets are on sale now and can be purchased for $6 each. Visit AkronAeros.com for all the Playoff details or call 800-97-AEROS for ticket information.
