Aeros Fall to Heat 5-3

HOUSTON --- David McIntyre, Kris Foucault and Casey Wellman each scored and Jeff Taffe ran his scoring streak to five games but the Houston Aeros couldn't overcome a three-goal deficit, falling to the Abbotsford Heat 5-3 Thursday at Toyota Center.

Justin Fontaine and Chay Genoway each had two assists and Matt Hackett made 20 saves for Houston. The Aeros, who dropped to 8-3-0-3, remain tied for first place in the Western Conference despite the loss.

Krys Kolanos and Jon Rheault each had a goal and an assist for the Heat, and Abbotsford climbed within two points of the top spot in the West Division.

Houston's McIntyre scored his seventh goal of the season at 15:10 in the second to cut the Heat lead to 3-1. Foucault pulled the Aeros within two goals at 17:27 in the third with a power play goal, and Wellman made it 4-3 with another power play goal at 19:02 in the third.

Jon Rheault scored an empty netter with a second left for Abbotsford to make it 5-3.

Krys Kolanos gave Abbotsford a 1-0 lead at 18:37 in the first period with a goal and put in a power play goal at 8:37 in the second. Greg Nemisz scored a power play goal at 10:09 in the second period to make it 3-0, and Rheault scored at 11:31 in the third.

The Aeros continue their four-game homestand at Toyota Center against Charlotte Sunday at 5:05 p.m.

Casey Wellman has points in nine of his last ten games and at least a point in all but two games this season... Wellman leads the Aeros with nine goals... Jeff Taffe has a point in five straight games (2-6=8)... Justin Fontaine had his first two-assist game of the season... Chay Genoway has a point in the last three games (0-4=4) and had his second two-assist game of the season.
