Aeros End Streak At Rivermen Expense

PEORIA, Ill. (February 21, 2010) - Derek Armstrong staked the Peoria Rivermen a 1-0 lead before the Houston Aeros stormed back with the final four goals of the game on Sunday at Carver Arena. The loss stopped the Aeros three-game losing streak and was the sixth straight setback for Peoria on home ice.

Armstrong's goal, at 15:23 of the first period, gave him a share of the team lead with 14 goals in just 26 games. He raced off the bench and behind the defense to pick up a puck and beat Barry Brust over the glove.

The first penalty shot against the Rivermen this season came at 6:08 of the second period. Chad Rau was awarded the shot after it was ruled the Ben Bishop threw his stick at Rau after he maneuvered around him on his way to the open net. Rau beat Bishop between the legs on the breakaway to tie the game at 1-1.

Colton Gillies scored the go-ahead goal at 15:50 of the second following a missed opportunity on the Rivermen power play. Peoria, who finished 0-for-3 on the man advantage, saw Cody Almond come out of the penalty box and join a 2-on-1 rush. Gillies ripped a shot past Bishop for his fifth of the season.

The Rivermen outshot the Aeros 14-6 in the third, and 32-21 in the game, but Houston accounted for the period's only two goals. Duncan Milroy jammed home a Nathan Smith rebound at 4:45 to give the Aeros a 3-1 lead. With the net empty for the final two minutes as the Rivermen made their last push, Danny Irmen shot one in from the red line with 0.4 second to play.

Houston has won four of the first five meetings of the season with the Rivermen and will next see each other on Mar. 12 in Houston.

Bishop finished with 17 saves in his fifth straight loss.
