Milwaukee Admirals News Release
Milwaukee, WI-In theory the home team is supposed to have an advantage during the playoffs. But that certainly doesn't appear to be the case in the West Division Semi-Final between the Milwaukee Admirals and the Iowa Stars. For the fourth time in the series the visiting team was victorious when the final whistle blew as the Stars took a 4-2 decision over the Admirals on Friday night.
The series is now knotted at three games apiece and the two squads will play the penultimate game this Sunday at 4:00 pm at the Bradley Center.
The teams played a scoreless first period with the Admirals outshooting the Stars 10-9. The Ads had more opportunities in the first half of the period, thanks in large part to two Milwaukee power-plays. However, Iowa seemed to have better chances in the final eight minutes of the half as the Admirals took a pair of penalties.
Brian Finley, the Admirals starting goaltender, left the game with an unspecified injury at the 11:30 mark of the first after stopping the first four Iowa shots. He was relieved by back-up Jake Moreland who made his Admiral debut in the contest.
The scoring picked up in the second period as the Admirals got on the board with a power-play goal by Darren Haydar, his third of the playoffs. Sheldon Brookbank fired a shot on goal that was topped by Iowa netminder Mike Smith, but the rebound popped free to Haydar on the left post and he swept the puck into the open net.
The Stars countered with two goals, however, to take a 2-1 lead after 40 minutes of play. Dan Hacker scored the first Iowa tally at the 7:00 minute mark on assits from Krys Barch and Junior Lessard. Marius Holtet gave the Stars the lead with an unassisted goal at 12:20 of the second.
Two more Iowa goals, Kyle Brodziak and Toby Petersen, in the first 7:06 of the third period gave the Stars an insurmountable lead. Steve Lingren brought the Admirals within two with a power-play marker at the 13:14 mark, but Milwaukee would get no closer.
Haydar had two points on the night for Milwaukee (1g-1a) to push his play-off total to ten points (3g-7a), while Lingren (1g-1a) and Brookbank (2a) also notched two points. Mike Smith stopped 29 shots to pick up the win for Iowa, while Moreland stopped 19 Stars shots in the loss.
