Admirals Top Wolves in Overtime

Rosemont, IL - The Admirals Cal O'Reilly scored the game-winning goal 6:07 into overtime to give the Ads a 4-3 win over the Chicago Wolves and a 1-0 lead in the best-of-seven West Division Semifinal match-up. The win was the first for Milwaukee since game three of the 2006 Calder Cup Finals, a streak of seven games.

The Wolves carried the play early, putting seven shots on goal before Milwaukee could muster their first shot over six minutes into the game. Four of those Chicago chances game while the Admirals successfully killed of a hooking penalty to Bryan Schmidt at 4:04 of the first.

The shots the rest of the period were about even with Wolves registering five more for a total of 12, while the Ads had four. Chicago had a pair of power plays, while the Admirals had one, but neither could get on the board and the teams went into the locker room scoreless after 20 minutes.

The Admirals went up 1-0 on a Josh Langfeld one-timer from the right dot at 2:48 of the second. With Andre Devauex in the box for a six-man penalty, Cal O'Reilly carried the puck along the half wall and sent a saucer pass to Langfeld who be Chicago goaltender high to the glove side.

Chicago would tie the score at 12:07 of the second when Jason Krog centered a pass into the Milwaukee crease where Brett Sterling was stationed and the Wolves forward managed to poke the puck pass Pekka Rinne.

The Wolves grabbed a 2-1 lead with just 12 seconds left in the period when Bryan Little lit the lamp. Little and former Admirals Darren Haydar skated into the Milwaukee zone with a two-on-one and Little fired a wrister that beat Rinne over his left glove.

An Alex Henry hooking penalty with four seconds left in the second would end of costing the Admirals at the beginning of the third as Jesse Schultz fired a one-timer from the left face-off dot to give Chicago a 3-1 lead less than 90 seconds into the final period.

Milwaukee closed the gap to one when Langfeld notched his second marker of the night. With the Admirals on a five-on-three advantage, Janne Niskala fired a rocket from the high slot that Langfeld redirected past Pavelec at 5:43 of the third.

Langfeld got the hat trick at 15:04 of the third when he jammed home a loose puck in the Chicago crease and tied the score at three apiece.

O'Reilly got the game winner when Alex Henry fired a shot towards the Chicago net and the puck got tangled in the skates of John Vigilatne before squirting free on the left post and all O'Reilly had to do was tap it in to get the win.

The hat trick for Langfeld was the first one by an Admiral this season and Pekka Rinne stopped 34 shots to lead Milwaukee.

The two teams will hit the ice for game two before the series shifts to the Bradley Center for games three and four of the series on Sunday, April 20th at 5:00 pm and on Wednesday, April 23rd at 7:00 pm.
