Milwaukee Admirals News Release
Milwaukee, WI--The Admirals lost for the first time this season as they dropped a 4-2 decision to the Iowa Wild on Wednesday night at the BMO Harris Bradley Center.
Wild goalie Johan Gustafsson, who had allowed eight goals in two previous games against the Ads this season, was strong in net for Iowa, allowing just two goals on 37 shots.
The last time these two team's faced off, Ads goalie Marek Mazanec threw a shutout, but Iowa spoiled that just 2:52 into the game when Michael Keranen deflected a shot from Jake Parenteau that snuck by Mazanec for a 1-0 Wild lead.
Miikka Salomaki tied it up for the Ads with his first goal of the season at 8:08 of the first period. The play started when Frederick Gaudreau fired a shot from the top of the left circle. Gustafsson made that stop and the rebound shot of Garrett Noonan, but the second save caused him to become prone on the ice and the rebound went to Salomaki for an easy goal.
However, Iowa scored a pair of power-play goals just 2:37 apart at the end of the second period to put the Ads in a deep hole. The first came from Marc Hagel at the 13:27 mark and then Zack Mitchell tallied his second of the year at 16:04.
Austin Watson cut the led in half for Milwaukee with his team-best fifth goal of the year with just under 11 minutes to play in the game. Defenseman Anthony Bitetto started the play with a between-the-legs pass to Watson, who shot the puck, had the rebound come right back to him, and then went top shelf for the marker.
That was as close as the Ads would get as Iowa's Danny Syvret scored on an empty Milwaukee net with 22 seconds to play.
Mazanec stopped 24 of 27 shots and lost for the first time this season.
The Admirals look to get back on the winning track with a home-and-home set with Chicago this weekend. It begins at the Allstate on Saturday night before returning to the BMOBC on Sunday afternoon at 3 pm.
