Oklahoma City Barons News Release

CEDAR PARK, Texas - Justin Dowling scored 42 seconds into overtime as the Texas Stars defeated the Oklahoma City Barons, 5-4, Wednesday night at Cedar Park Center.

With Oklahoma City shorthanded to start the overtime period due to a hooking penalty by Jason Williams late in the third period, Dowling took a pass from John Klingberg near the left edge of the Barons crease and flipped the game winning shot past OKC goalie Frans Tuohimaa.

For the second consecutive game, the Barons and Stars required overtime to settle the game, with Oklahoma City winning the previous game 6-5.

The Barons got on the board early in the game when Jordan Oesterle netted his second goal of the season, sending a shot from the right circle that evaded Texas goalie Jack Campbell at 3:03 of the opening frame.

Oklahoma City extended its lead at the 10:42 mark of the frame when, on the power play stemming from a hooking penalty to the Stars' Julius Honka at 9:51, Iiro Pakarinen took a wide-open pass in the high Texas slot and sent a wrister past Campbell to give the Barons a 2-0 lead.

Texas wouldn't be shut out in the opening period, however, as Brett Ritchie muscled the rebound of a Cameron Gaunce shot past Tuohimaa at 12:55 of the frame to make the score 2-1 in favor of Oklahoma City.

Three Oklahoma City penalties from 19:21 of the first period to 2:45 of the second gave Texas enough of an advantage to even the score early in the second frame. With the Barons' Mitch Moroz serving 2:00 for slashing, the Stars' Maxime Fortunus sent a slap shot from the right circle that beat Tuohimaa to make the score 2-2 at 2:50.

After Derek Meech was whistled for holding at the 4:41 mark, Oklahoma City's Ryan Hamilton regained the lead for Oklahoma City when he sent a shot from beyond the left circle that initially looked as if it had hit the post, but replay later confirmed had broken through the net. Hamilton's second goal of the season gave the Barons a 3-2 advantage at 6:16 of the second period.

At 15:33 of the second, Texas' Brendan Ranford tied the game at three, taking a Justin Dowling pass and skating to the high slot before spinning and firing a shot that deflected off defending Baron Jujhar Khaira's stick and over Tuohimaa's left shoulder.

Oklahoma City broke the tie 14 seconds into the third period when Anton Lander took a pass from Pakarinen that led to a breakaway and shot the puck over a sprawling Campbell.

Late in the third, Texas took a too many men on the ice penalty at 13:06 that was offset by an interference penalty by Oklahoma City's Lander at 13:12. After the penalty to Texas expired, Curtis McKenzie tallied the late game-tying goal on the power play in the final seconds of Lander's penalty.

Williams' hooking penalty at 19:06 of the third period carried into overtime, putting the Barons in a 4-on-3 disadvantage.

The Barons are back in action at 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 1, when they return home and begin a two-game series against the Iowa Wild at the Cox Convention Center.
