Norfolk Admirals News Release

HERSHEY, PA - Despite peppering Bears goaltender Daren Machesney with 32 shots in the final two periods, the Norfolk Admirals (10-18-1-2) were unable to overcome a first period deficit as they fell to the Hershey Bears (16-11-0-2) 4-1 on Saturday night at Giant Center.

The Admirals surrendered a season-high 21 shots in a period in the opening frame as Hershey took a 2-1 lead after 20 minutes. Grant Potulny gave the Bears a 1-0 lead with a power play goal at 2:28. Joe Motzko sent a shot from the left half-wall that Norfolk netminder Jonathan Boutin stopped. However, Potulny scooped up the rebound near the right side of the crease and stuffed it past Boutin.

The Admirals leveled the score at 1-1 five minutes later. Kyle Wanvig centered a pass from behind the net to Adam Henrich in the goalmouth. Henrich settled the puck on his forehand before rifling a wrist shot past Hershey goaltender Daren Machesney at 7:21.

Another goalmouth scramble led to the second Hershey goal just as a Norfolk penalty expired. After Boutin stopped at least three shots, Bears' forward Kyle Wilson circled behind the net from the left post to the right and sent a wraparound into the cage past the prone netminder at 9:51.

The Admirals turned their play around in the second stanza, out-shooting the Bears 16-10 in the period. However, Machesney made several big saves to keep Norfolk on the board, and a bad line change late in the period led to Hershey's third goal. Kyle Wilson broke in three-on-one on Boutin, deking the netminder before slipping the puck through the five-hole and into the cage at 17:57.

Machesney continued to deny Norfolk's repeated attempts to cut their deficit in the final frame. Midway through the third period, the Bears put a halt to Norfolk's momentum with their fourth goal. Andrew Gordon centered a pass from behind the net to Andrew Joudrey for a one-timer goal at 10:56.

Jonathan Boutin (39 shots, 35 saves) got the loss. Daren Machesney (36 shots, 35 saves) earned the victory.

Norfolk was 0-7 on the power play. Hershey was 1-8.
