Peoria Rivermen News Release

The Peoria Rivermen picked up its first shootout win since October 19 as they downed the Lake Erie Monsters by a 3-2 count on Saturday night at Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland, Ohio.

The Rivermen converted on all three shootout attempts while Marek Schwarz stopped three of the four shooters he faced to pick up the win, his second in a row.

Trailing heading into the third period, Yan Stastny roofed a Charles Linglet feed at 9:25, one-timing the pass to force extra hockey and cap a comeback for the Rivermen from a 2-0 first period deficit.

Lake Erie fired the opening salvo of the game at 5:31 on a power play goal from Ray Macias, who pounced on a rebound in the low slot and fired it up over the shoulder of Marek Schwarz. Brent Kelly made it a 2-0 game with an unassisted goal at 10:01, using a pair of trailers on a three-on-one break to keep Schwarz deep in his net and ring a shot in off the goal post.

Peoria cut the Monsters' lead in half at 11:29 of the second stanza when Julian Talbot banked a shot in off Jeff Jillson's skate in front of the Lake Erie goal. Jean-Guy Trudel and Linglet combined to set up the marker, extending Linglet's point-scoring streak to nine games.

At the Christmas break, the Rivermen carry a mark of 14-9-2-3, good for 33 points and a tie for sixth place in the Western Conference West Division.

Peoria's next game will be on Winning Wednesday, December 26 at 7 pm against the division-leading Rockford IceHogs.
