Adell's Big Night Sinks Cougars

Burlington, Iowa - The Kane County Cougars dropped game two of a four game series with the Burlington Bees, 9-3, on Tuesday night at Community Field.

In the top of the first, the Cougars (17-17) took a 2-0 lead. Ernie De La Trinidad drove in a run with a sacrifice fly to score Gabriel Maciel. With the next batter Eudy Ramos, at the plate, Jasrado Chisholm scored from third on a wild pitch to make it 2-0 Cougars. The Bees (16-19) responded with a run of their own in the bottom of the first. With one out, Jo Adell hit a solo home run to cut the Cougar lead to 2-1. In the bottom of the third, Leonardo Rivas walked with two outs. The free pass was followed up with Adell's second homer of the night, a two-run shot to give the Bees a 3-2 lead.

The Cougars tied the game in the top of the sixth inning after Renae Martinez walked, advanced to third on Ramos' double and scored on a wild pitch. In the bottom of the inning, the Bees busted the game open with a four spot. Keinner Pina collected an RBI single, scoring Brandon Marsh and Torii Hunter. Franklin Torres made it 6-3 Burlington with an RBI single. Julio Garcia completed the four-run rally with an RBI single of his own.

In the bottom of the eighth, Adell recorded his fourth and fifth RBIs of the night with a two-run double, extending the Bees' lead to 9-3.

Cougars' starting pitcher Jhoan Duran lasted four innings, allowed three runs on two hits, striking out seven and walking three. Matt Peacock (2-1) tossed two innings out of the Cougar bullpen, surrendering four runs on five hits to take the loss. Abraham Almonte hung a zero in the seventh inning. In his only inning of relief, Breckin Williams allowed two runs on the Adell RBI double.

Bees' starter Mitchel Traver tossed two innings, allowing two runs on two hits, walking two and striking out two. Jorge Tavarez threw three innings of scoreless ball out of the Burlington bullpen, scattering two hits and five strikeouts. Eduardo Del Rosario (1-0) initially blew the save by allowing the Cougars to tie the game at three, but earned the win after completing three innings of one-run ball. Max Hermann hurled a scoreless ninth.

The Cougars' continue their four-game series with Burlington on Wednesday night with game three. The Cougars will send righty Jeff Bain (2-1, 2.15) to the mound. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Follow the action live with Joe Brand on AM 1280 WBIG or on kccougars.com.
