Aces Win it With Walk Off

Alexandria, La. - July 6, 2008 - The Alexandria Aces used a walk-off walk to beat the Edinburg Coyotes 3-2 Sunday at Bringhurst Field. Coyotes closer walked Andre Marshall with the bases loaded to force home Albert Gonzalez to give the Aces the win. Alexandria was trailing 2-1 entering the ninth. Bryan Sabatella led off the inning with a solo homer to right to tie the game at two. Gonzalez then followed with a single to right to put the winning run on base. After Selwyn Langaigne walked to put runners at first and second, it looked like Castro might get out of the inning. The right-hander struck out Palmer Karr Jr. and Rafael Ozuna to give the Aces two outs. Madison Edwards walked to load the bases and set up a storybook scenario. With the bases loaded, two outs, tie game, Andre Marshall walked to force home the winning run. The Coyotes ended what was shaping up to be a pitchers' duel with two runs in the seventh. After Mayobanex Santana walked to lead off the inning, Amado German attempted to sacrifice the runner to second with a bunt to third. Gonzalez threw the ball over the head of Sabatella at first and allowed Santana to score from first and German to go all the way to third. German gave the Coyotes a 2-0 lead when he scored on a double by Logan Wood. Marshall cut the lead in half with a solo homer of the scoreboard in left-center in the bottom of the seventh. Both starters were solid as the Aces' Robbie Wooley put together his best outing of the year. The righty gave up two runs in six innings while striking out eight. His counterpart Eric Montoya went 6.2 innings and gave up just one run on eight hits while striking out six. The Aces and Coyotes will play Game 2 of this three-game set Monday as Alexis Sosa of Alexandria and Miguel Martinez of Edinburg will square off. Game time is 7:05 PM.
