Broncos spoil big night in Amarillo

Amarillo, TX-The Laredo Broncos had to deal with the distraction of the famous San Diego Chicken and a capacity crowd of over 7500 people in Amarillo, but that did not bother them as they beat the Dillas by the score of 10-4 on Monday in Amarillo. The Broncos continue their 8 game road trip, with the finale of a 3 game set with the Dillas on Tuesday night. For more information you can call (956)-723-BASE (2273).

The Broncos busted out their bats in the first inning against Dillas starter Taylor Allen. Steven Wright led off the game with a single and then went to 3rd on a single by Arnoldo Ponce. Dwayne White then hit a 2 run double scoring both Wright and Ponce. After a groundout moved White to 3rd, Luany Sanchez drove him in with a single. Ben Tinius would follow with a single and Ivan Reyes was hit by a pitch to load the bases. With 2 outs and Josue Gonzalez batting, Allen would throw a wild pitch scoring Sanchez and giving the Broncos a 4-0 lead.

The famous San Diego Chicken would make his debut in the game in the middle of the 3rd inning and it seemed to energize not only the crowd, but the Dillas as well. Justin Wenger led off with a single and scored on a double by Sam Mclain. Josh Ashton would then single and move Mclain to 3rd. Jonathan Reynoso would then hit a sacrifice fly scoring Mclain from 3rd base and making the score 4-2.

Laredo would tack on another run in the top of the 5th. With 2 outs Luany Sanchez doubled. Ben Tinius would then follow with a rbi single, giving the Broncos a 5-2 lead.

The Broncos would add on to their lead in the 6th inning. With one out, Josue Gonzalez hit an infield single. Steven Wright then doubled with Gonzalez advancing to 3rd. Arnoldo Ponce would then deliver with a 2 run double making the score 7-2.

The Dillas would get back on the scoreboard in the 7th inning. Justin Wenger started the inning off with a triple. He would then score on a sacrifice fly by Sam Mclain. Josh Ashton would then single and would score on a Jonathan Reynoso double. That would chase Andy Schon from the game as Rusty Jones came in to relieve him. Jones got Keith Brachold to ground out, and got Gary chneidmiller to strike out and end the inning. The score was 7-4 Broncos after 7.

Andy Schon pitched well for Laredo and was in line for the win. He went 6 2/3 giving up 4 runs on 8 hits. He walked 1 batter and struck out 2.

The Broncos would add on some insurance runs in the 8th inning. Josue Gonzalez reached base on an error by Danny Bravo. With one out Arnoldo Ponce walked moving Gonzalez to 2nd. Dwayne White then reached base on a fielder's choice with Gonzalez forced out at 3rd and Ponce on 2nd. Edgard Clemente would then hit a 3 run home run, his 9th of the season. That extended the Broncos lead to 10-4.

Rusty Jones would pitch a scoreless 8th and 9th inning, picking up his 3rd save of the season, as the Broncos took the middle game of the series by a score of 10-4.

The Broncos scored 10 runs on 15 hits and committed 1 error, while the Dillas scored 4 runs on 8 hits and committed 1 error.
