HARLINGEN, Texas-The Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings (7-7) had their three game winning streak snapped by the Alexandria Aces (7-7), 3-1, in the first game of a doubleheader at Harlingen Field Saturday night.
The game was deadlocked at 1-1, until the fifth inning when the Aces scored two runs, in the seven inning tilt.
Ace's second basemen Eddie Murray hit a one out single in the top of the first inning This opened the door for Nick Mahin who belted an RBI single, scoring Murray to give Alexandria the early 1-0 lead.
The WhiteWings answered back in the bottom of the first with a one out single from Thomas Shull.
Wings right fielder Aaron Gates hit his United League Baseball leading 16th RBI, scoring Shull from second as Gates slid into second for an RBI double, tying the ballgame at one run each.
Ace's Michael Haynes led the fifth inning off with a double followed by a walk by Eddie Muray, with two runners on and two outs in the inning, Derrick Pyles belted a two run RBI that gave the Aces a 3-1 lead, as Alexandria held on from there.
WhiteWings starting pitcher Bobby O'Neill (2-1) went five innings allowing eight hits and three runs in his first loss of the season.
Game two of the double header is still in progress.
