San Angelo Colts News Release

Fort Worth, Texas --- Fort Worth Cats' rookie first baseman Kyle Pearson's three-run homer in the bottom of the eighth inning propelled his team to a 5-4, comeback win against the Colts Saturday night at LaGrave Field.

It was Pearson's first career hit, and it proved to be the game-winner. The home run into left field scored right fielder Chris Ellison and catcher Shelby Ford. Ford drove in the first run of the inning, hitting an RBI single that scored shortstop Kori Melo.

The Colts jumped out to a 4-1 lead, and held it through three scoreless innings. Designated hitter Kyle Nichols hit an RBI double in the first that brought home second baseman Jon Dziomba and right fielder Mike Mobbs, giving the Colts an early 2-0 advantage.

In the second, San Angelo went ahead 3-0 when shortstop Danny Hernandez scored from third on a balk by Cats' starter Jeff Sakowski. Hernandez reached base on a two-out walk, and advanced to third on a base hit by third baseman Jordan Marks.

The Colts scored their final run in the fourth inning. First baseman Steve Rinaudo hit a leadoff triple, and then came home on an RBI double by catcher Chris Caves. San Angelo led 4-1 at that point.

In his final career outing, Colts' starter Brian Murphy allowed just one run through his first seven innings of work. In the eighth, though, he was charged with three runs and was forced to settle for a no decision.

Reliever Cephas Howard (1-1) gave up the home run to Pearson, and therefore took the loss. Cats' reliever Chad Robinson (1-0) pitched 2 2/3 scoreless innings for the win. Closer Boomer Potts recorded the final out to collect his third save of the year.

The win improves the Cats to 10-5, while the loss drops San Angelo to 7-8. This series concludes Saturday night at LaGrave Field. First pitch is set for 6:05 p.m., and the game can be heard live beginning at 5:50 p.m. on 1260 KKSA.
