Aces grab 6-4 win over Colts

August 8, 2008 - United League Baseball (ULB) - Alexandria Aces News Release

Alexandria, La. - August 8, 2008 - Friday's game between the Alexandria Aces and San Angelo Colts had a playoff feel as the Aces won 6-4 at Bringhurst Field.

The Colts got out to an early lead when Andres Rodriguez hit a two-run homer. The home run was his league-leading 19th of the year and gave the Colts a 2-0 lead. The Aces came back with one in the bottom of the first on an RBI triple by Selwyn Langaigne. The Colts extended their lead with two more runs in the second on a two-run single by former Ace Tyrone Pendergrass. The Aces tied the game 4-4 in the third. With two on, Rafael Ozuna singled home Langaigne to cut the lead to two. Two batters later, with the bases loaded, Jose Umbria was hit by a pitch, forcing in a run. Homy Ovalles delivered the tying run with a single to left scoring Ozuna. The Aces took the lead in the fifth when a sacrifice fly by Ovalles plated Andre Marshall.

Aces starter Chad Linder, after giving up two runs in each of the first two innings, settled down to pitch 5.1 innings while striking out nine. The All-Star left-hander turned the ball over to the bullpen, which was fantastic in relief. Angel Guzman, Ronald Ramirez, B.J. Litchfield and Juan Carlos Ovalles combined for 3.2 innings and gave up only one hit. The quartet struck out three.

The Aces and Colts will continue their three-game series Saturday as Ramon Portillo for the Aces faces Logan Williamson. Game time is 7:05.

Next home game: Saturday, August 9th vs. San Angelo. Academy Sports Back To School Night.
