Broncos Lose A Heartbreaker to the Coyotes, 6-5

Edinburg, TX-The Laredo Broncos rallied from 5 runs down, but couldn't get any closer as they fell toThe Edinburg Coyotes by a score of 6-5 on Friday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium. The Broncos continue on their crucial 3 game road trip with the middle game of a 3 game series on Saturday. For more information you can call (956)-723-BASE (2273).

The Coyotes would jump out into the lead in the 1st inning. Angelo Fermin walked to start the inning and then went to 2nd on a error by Arnoldo Ponce allowing Gary Roche to reach base. That was followed by Daryl Jones getting hit by a pitch to load the bases. Argelis Nunez drove in Fermin with a single. Eric Gonzalez then reached on a fielder's choice with Roche scoring and Jones moving to 3rd. Mayobanex Santana would then hit a sacrifice fly scoring Jones and making the score 3-0.

Edinburg would add a run in the 3rd inning. With 1 out Argelis Nunez singled and went to 2nd on a single by Eric Gonzalez. Mayobanex Santana was then hit by a pitch to load the bases. Robert Matlock then reached on a fielder's choice, scoring on the play was Nunez to make the score 4-0.

The Broncos offense struggled through the first 5 innings against Coyotes starter Aaron Guerra. They only managed 2 hits, one by Ben Tinius and one by Dwayne White.. Guerra had struck out 5 batters in those 5 innings as well.

The Coyotes would extend their lead in the 5th inning. With 2 outs Mayobanex Santana crushed a solo home run, his 3rd of the season. That would give Edinburg a 5-0 lead.

The Broncos would get on the scoreboard in the 6th inning. Ben Tinius led off with a single and then went to 2nd on a walk to Sean Gamble. Anthony Bennett then hit a rbi single scoring Tinius and advancing Gamble to 2nd. Matt Imwalle was then hit by a pitch to load the bases. Edgard Clemente reached on a fielder's choice scoring Gamble and moving Bennett to 3rd. Dwayne White followed with a sacrifice fly scoring Gamble and cutting Edinburg's lead to 2 by a score of 5-3.

Laredo would get some more runs in the 7th inning as John Maschino came into the game replacing Aaron Guerra. With 1 out, Josue Gonzalez walked and then scored on a 2 run home run by Ben Tinius, his 5th of the season. Sean Gamble followed with a single and went to 2nd on a walk to Anthony Bennett. That chased Maschino from the game as Julio Castro came in. after the 2nd out of the inning, Edgard Clemente walked to load the bases. Dwayne White was at the plate and flied out to end the inning, but the Broncos tied the game up at 5.

Santo Hernandez would leave the game with a no decision after 6 innings of work. He gave up 5 runs, 4 of which were earned on 7 hits. He walked only 1 batter and struck out 5. Dan Sausville came into the game in the 7th inning.

The Coyotes would threaten in the 8th inning putting the first two runners on against the Broncos David Wasylak. But, Wasylak was able to get out of the jam by striking out the side and keeping the score tied at 5 heading into the 9th.

The Broncos would do nothing in their half of the 9th, but the Coyotes would strike in their half. With 1 out Daryl Jones walked. That was followed by an intentional walk to Argelis Nunez. With Eric Gonzalez pitching a wild pitch was thrown by Wasylak moving Jones to 3rd. Nunez on the next pitch would steal 2nd. Gonzalez hit a deep fly ball into centerfield. The throw by Clemente was not in time as the Coyotes took the game by a score of 6-5.

The Broncos scored 5 runs on 7 hits and committed 1 error while the Coyotes scored 6 runs on 8 hits and committed 0 errors.

The Broncos now fall to 37-45 on the season. Laredo is now 3 games back of Edinburg for the 4th and final playoff spot. The Broncos will be back in action on Saturday when they play game 2 of the big 3 game series against the Coyotes in Edinburg.
