Aces Explode for Franchise-Record 38 Points in 3rd Quarter in 100-80 Win over Phoenix

LAS VEGAS - The Las Vegas Aces (6-1) exploded for a franchise-record 38 points in the third quarter Saturday afternoon en route to a 100-80 nationally-televised victory over visiting Phoenix (2-4).

KEY RUNS

First Quarter (Phoenix 25, Las Vegas 22)

The Mercury scored 15 of the first 21 points of the game to go up 9, 15-6. Phoenix went 3 for 6 from deep in the quarter, while the Aces went 1 for 7.

Second Quarter (Las Vegas 44, Phoenix 42)

Phoenix still led 30-24 early in the period, but Las Vegas scored 6 straight to tie the score. The Mercury eventually re-took the lead, but the Aces closed the quarter on a 7-1 run. Jackie Young didn't miss a shot in the period making 3 field goals, including one three-pointer, and five free throws for 12 points.

Third Quarter (Las Vegas 82, Phoenix 60)

The Aces scored 18 of the first 25 points in the period to go up 11, 62-49. They eventually extended their lead to as many as 24. Kelsey Plum scored 15 points in the quarter, draining three three-pointers, and Dearica Hamby added 11 points.

Fourth Quarter (Las Vegas 100, Phoenix 80)

Las Vegas pushed its lead out to 28 early in the fourth, and both teams played their benches for most of the remainder of the period.

KEY STATS

The Aces made 23 of 30 free throws while Phoenix made 13 of 20.

The Aces made 47.9 percent of their shots, while the Mercury made 41.4 percent of theirs.

The Aces outscored the Mercury 17-7 in fast break points.

The Mercury committed 15 turnovers which the Aces flipped into 21 points. Las Vegas made 10 miscues, which Phoenix turned into 11 points.

GAME NOTES

Riquna Williams missed the game with a left foot strain.

The Aces scored 100 or more points for the second time this season.

Dearica Hamby scored in double figures for the 9th straight game and the 104th time in her career (13 points).

Jackie Young scored in double figures for the 9th straight game and the 47th time in her career (20 points). That was also the 9th time she has scored 20 or more points in her career, including her 3rd this season.

Kelsey Plum scored in double figures for the 14th straight game and the 71st time in her career (24 points). She also scored 20 or more points for the 18th time in her career, and the third time this year.

Chelsea Gray scored in double figures for the 6th time this season and the 143rd time in her carer (13 points). She added a season-high 4 steals.

A'ja Wilson had her streak of six straight games scoring in double figures snapped, scoring 9 points on 3 of 7 shooting.

Theresa Plaisance scored a season-high 11 points, and tied her season-high with 9 rebounds.
