
Aces Clinch Second Half Title

Alexandria, LA Monday August 13, 2007- The Alexandria Aces clinched a second half title by defeating the San Angelo Colts tonight by the score of 3-2 in front of 1,088 at Bringhurst Field.
The win allows the Aces to take on first half winner Rio Grande in a best of seven championship series starting August 24th.
Buddy Bengel worked 6.0 strong innings, allowing two runs on five, while walking just one and tying a season high with 10 strike outs. Bengel (5-4) threw 98 pitches, 69 for strikes, and kept the Colts offense on thier heels all night long. Charlie Foster worked .2 of an inning, allowing a walk and striking out one, while facing three batters. Juan Carlos Ovalles worked a scoreless 1.1innings in relief, retiring the four batters he faced, striking out two of them. Justin Dowdy pitched a perfect ninth for his league leading 23rd save of the season.
The Aces got a multiple hit game from Josh Tranum going 2-for-4 with a run scored. Tyrone Pendergrass, Palmer Karr, Luis Guance, Bryan Sabatella, Evan Cherry, and Kevin MacIlvane all added hits in the clinching game.
As soon as the ball hit the mit of catcher eddie Fitzpatrick for the final out, the Aces dugout erupted to dog pile Justin Dowdy.
With the win, the Aces improve to 58-32 and 31-10 in the second half.
The loss drops the Colts to 41-49 overall and 19-21 in the second half.
