In his Alaska Aces debut, Adam Courchaine picked up right where Gerald Coleman left off. Courchaine made 33 saves on as many shots to lead Alaska to a 3-0 win over the Bakersfield Condors on Saturday Night. It was their second straight 3-0 victory, and raised the Aces record to a conference leading 5-1 on the year. The Aces will continue their five-game road trip on Wednesday with a rematch at Bakersfield at 6:00pm AKST. All games can be heard on the radio home of Aces hockey, NewsTalk 750AM KFQD. The Aces jumped out to another early lead with a pair of first period goals. Ethan Cox redirected a Ryan Sinkewich shot at 4:53 for his first pro goal to make it 1-0. Less than four minutes later at 8:52, Scott Howes picked up a loose puck in the slot and turned and fired a puck past Josh Tordjman to increase the Aces lead to 2-0.
After a scoreless second period that featured 15 saves from Courchaine, the Aces closed the door in the third adding an empty net goal from Wes Goldie at 18:25 of the third period.
The Aces quickly added to their lead in the third period. Just 40 seconds into the period, Ethan Cox created a turnover in the Las Vegas zone and found Jerad Stewart at the bottom of the left circle where he beat Ouzas on a backhand to out the Aces comfortably in front at 3-0. Aces goaltenders stopped 64 of 64 shots this weekend, and 94 of 96 shots faced over the last three games.
Courchaine (1-0) earned the win with his first pro shutout. Tordjman (2-2) suffered the loss, with 30 saves on 32 shots. The Aces power play went 0-2, while the Condors went 0-3. Both teams had 33 shots on goal.
