Las Vegas Wranglers News Release
Anchorage, AK - The Las Vegas Wranglers® (8-8) were defeated by the Alaska Aces (10-2) 4-1 in Game 2 of the National Conference Finals in front of 4,595 fans at the Sullivan Arena on Sunday night. Alaska goalie J.P. Lamoureaux made 23 saves for the win. Aces forwards Lance Galbraith, Alexandre Imbeault, Vladimir Novak and Luke Erikson each scored in the victory. Wranglers' defenseman Dan Spang scored the team's lone goal in the defeat. Las Vegas goalie Glenn Fisher suffered the loss, stopping16 of 19 Aces shots before he was pulled in the second period. Las Vegas will return home to host Alaska for Game 3 this Tuesday at 7:30 PM.
Alaska built a 2-0 first period lead, starting with a power-play goal just 2:53 into the opening period. Winger Lance Galbraith banked the puck off the skate of Las Vegas goalie Glenn Fisher, scoring his sixth goal of the playoffs and giving the Aces a 1-0 lead. Alaska struck again with an odd goal off a faceoff in the Las Vegas zone at 10:44. Aces center Luke Erikson swatted the puck off the draw into the air towards the Wranglers net. Las Vegas goalie Glenn Fisher gloved the puck down, but lost it as the puck rolled out of his glove, bounced to the ice and rolled into the Wranglers net. Erikson's third goal of the playoffs gave Alaska a 2-0 lead after one period of play.
In the second period, the Aces expanded their lead to 3-0 at 12:13 of the middle frame. Center Alexandre Imbeault scored off a rebound to the right of Las Vegas goalie Glenn Fisher. Galbraith took the initial shot on net and Fisher kicked the rebound to his right. A wide-open Imbeault scooped up the puck and snapped in his fourth goal of the playoffs for a three-goal Alaska lead. Wranglers' goalie Glenn Fisher was pulled after the goal, finishing his night with 16 saves on 19 Alaska shots. John Decaro finished the second period with three saves on three shots.
In the third period, Vladimir Novak extended the lead to 4-0 at 6:02. Novak was set up alone in front of the Las Vegas net by Scott Burt. Novak scored his third goal of the playoffs, beating John DeCaro and giving the Aces a four-goal lead. The Wranglers broke J.P. Lamoureaux's bid for a second straight shutout as defenseman Dan Spang scored his fifth goal of the playoffs at 12:55. Center Chris Neiszner set up the goal, trimming the Aces lead to 4-1.
Las Vegas will host Games 3 and 4 on Tuesday May 12th, and Thursday May 14th, at 7:30 PM.
