Alaska Aces News Release
ANCHORAGE, Alaska - The Alaska Aces have signed left winger Erik Fabian and center Luke Erickson to one-year contracts for the 2008-09 season.
Both players, rookies in 2007-08, became unrestricted free agents when Pensacola's ECHL membership was terminated this summer. Originally from Roseau, Minnesota, Fabian and Erickson won a high school state championship together in 1999 and each recently married.
The 6-2, 202-pound Fabian scored 10 goals and assisted on 13 others in just 47 games for the Ice Pilots last season while seeing time on both the power play and penalty kill units. He played in two Frozen Fours at the University of North Dakota, including a two-goal outing in a 4-2 win over Minnesota in 2005 that put the Fighting Sioux in the national championship game. Fabian also captured WCHA All-Academic honors three times and finished his collegiate career with 17 goals and 20 assists in 113 games.
The 25-year-old Erickson played in 70 of Pensacola's 72 games last year and finished fourth on the team with 31 points and third with 15 goals, two of which came shorthanded. He played four years at Bemidji State University prior to turning pro, leaving the Beavers as the school's all-time leading scorer, surpassing Andrew Murray, now with the Columbus Blue Jackets of the NHL. Erickson led Bemidji St. in scoring as a junior with 35 points (16g-19a) and despite missing 15 games due to injury in his senior year, still led the Beavers with 13 goals.
Alaska welcomes the South Carolina Stingrays for two pre-season games October 8 and 9 at 7:15 p.m. in Anchorage. Both games will be broadcast live on the flagship home of Aces hockey, KFQD 750 AM, with coverage beginning 15 minutes prior to the opening face-off. The Aces open the 2008-09 regular season at home against Las Vegas October 17 and 18, with both games starting at 7:15 p.m.
2008-09 mini-plans start at just $87. Please call 258-ACES for more information about the wide variety of season ticket options for the upcoming year. Regular office hours at the corner of 15th and Gambell are Monday through Friday between 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.
