Victoria Salmon Kings News Release

Victoria, BC - The Victoria Salmon Kings, proud affiliate of the Vancouver Canucks and Manitoba Moose, announced today that they have signed defensemen Mike Nesdill for the 2008-09 season.

The 6-2, 183lb blueliner is entering his first professional season. He has spent the last four years in the NCAA at Bowling Green State University. Over those four seasons he amassed 7 goals and 38 assists for 45 points with 145 penalty minutes in 115 games.

Salmon Kings' assistant coach, Quinten Van Horlick, recruited Nesdill after meeting him this summer at the Ohio university.

"Mike is a great skater who has excellent vision of the ice," Van Horlick said. "He will also be of great benefit in the locker room as he is a team first person."

Prior to his time at Bowling Green, Nesdill played two seasons for the Lincoln Stars in the USHL. With Lincoln, he notched 16 goals and 27 assists for 43 points with 182 penalty minutes in 106 games.

In addition, the Phoenix Arizona native was selected to play for the U.S National Under-18 Team in 2000-01, 2001-2002 and the U.S. Jr. National Team in 2001-02.

Nesdill is the seventh player the Salmon Kings have signed for the upcoming season. The defenseman joins forwards Wes Goldie, Chris St. Jacques, Darryl Lloyd and Jacob Dietrich as well as fellow defenseman Matt Kelly and Jeremy Swanson.
