Checkers Announce 2009 Schedule

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Charlotte Checkers announced today the release of their 2008-09 schedule.

The first game of the season will take place on the road against the Florida Everblades on Friday Oct. 17. The home opener falls on Halloween night Friday, Oct. 31 at Time Warner Cable Arena when they battle division rivals the Augusta Lynx at a spooky start time of 8 p.m. The Checkers will get a rematch at home against the team that ousted them from the first round of the Kelly Cup Playoffs last season when they take on Gwinnett on Sunday, Nov. 23.

The Checkers will play 72 games during the regular season spanning from Oct. 17, 2008 to April 4, 2009. The Checkers return to play 36 home games at Time Warner Cable Arena and 36 games on the road. Monday thru Saturday games will have a 7 p.m. start with Sundays beginning 4 p.m. There will be a few start time alterations due to special promotions. The home portion of the schedule is highlighted by seven Saturdays, seven Fridays and eight Sunday dates. The team's longest home-stand is five games and it happens twice during the year. The first starts on Thursday, Jan. 8 thru Friday Jan. 16 and the second starts on Sunday, March 8 thru Sunday, March 15. The longest road stretch starts off the season when the team begins in Florida to battle the Everblades on Oct. 17 and ends in Gwinnett on Tuesday, Oct. 28. The total length of the trip spans six games in 11 nights.

The Checkers are gearing up for their 16th season of play as a member of the ECHL. In the team's 15-year history, the Checkers have made the playoffs 11 times including four consecutive playoff appearances to date. The Checkers are in their fourth season of play at Time Warner Cable Arena. Season tickets are on sale now with full-season packages starting at just $396.
