Academy Update: Inter Miami CF Academy Hosts Inaugural Edition of the Freedom Cup
December 23, 2022 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
Inter Miami CF News Release
From Dec. 16 to 19, the Inter Miami CF Academy presented by Baptist Health hosted the inaugural edition of the Freedom Cup. For four days straight, Florida Blue Training Center hosted four other young academies, located as close as South Florida and as far as Atlanta, Georgia.
The mission of the tournament was to create a unique, one-of-a-kind tournament atmosphere where we could compete with the highest-level teams possible in our backyard and expand annually. We certainly succeeded. The academy youth had the opportunity to showcase their skills and grow better alongside their peers. Our own Inter Miami CF Academy teams participated as well, competing in all three age groups; U-13, U-14, and U-15.
In the U-13 category, it was Weston FC who collected the most point, finishing with seven points, the most in Bracket A. In one of their best performances, they scored seven goals & their keeper maintained a clean sheet in a highlight-worthy 7-0 match.
The U-14 group was arguably the most competitive, with three teams finishing with six points. These three were our own Inter Miami CF Academy, Miami Rush Kendall SC and Weston FC. This bracket featured some of the most exciting matches of the entire weekend. In particular, Inter Miami earned a key win over fellow MLS Academy Atlanta United FC.
Concluding with the tournaments' eldest group, the U-15 bracket saw both Juventus Academy Miami and South Florida Football Academy finish with 7 points. This group also featured some close matches and competitive play.
We appreciate all the coaches, athletes, and parents who came together to make this tournament possible and would like to congratulate everyone involved for a fantastic inaugural Freedom Cup. Make sure to lookout out for the second edition of the Inter Miami CF Freedom Cup in 2023!
