Chicago Steel News Release
GENEVA, ILLINOIS - The USHL announced Monday Steel players Nick Abruzzese and Reilly Herbst were named USHL Forward and Goalie of the Week, respectively. These are the first such honors for the Steel this season, and comes with the team in the midst of a season-high seven-game winning streak.
"The individual success has been a product of our group playing hard for each other and it's fun to see," said Steel Head Coach Greg Moore.
Abruzzese had a five-point (2-3-5) weekend as the Steel won both contests last weekend. The Harvard commit scored Chicago's first goal Friday night against Central Illinois before adding a powerplay assist in the second period. Abruzzese then collected two points in 34 seconds in Saturday's game. He then added another assist on the final goal of the game.
"Abruzzese has been focusing a lot on the defensive side of his game and it's good to see him get rewarded offensively for his defensive efforts," said Moore.
Abruzzese currently leads the Steel with 21 points (5-16-21) in 19 games this season and is now on a five-game point streak (3-6-9). The Slate Hill, N.Y. native currently leads the team with five helpers on the powerplay and is tied for the team-lead with six points on the man-advantage. Abruzzese's 16 assists this year lead the team and have him seventh in the USHL.
Herbst picked up his second career USHL win Saturday night when he stopped 20 of 21 shots he saw in a 5-1 win over the Flying Aces. Herbst has appeared in five games in his rookie season and currently holds a 2-2-0-0 record with a 3.33 goals against average and .859 save percentage. The Niwot, Col. native made big saves throughout the course of Saturday's game to backstop the Steel to their seventh-straight victory.
"Herbst brings a professional approach to his development each day and we are happy for his success on Saturday night," said Moore.
Chicago plays three games this week, beginning with a Tuesday, Dec. 4 game against Cedar Rapids at Fox Valley Ice Arena at 7:05 p.m. The Steel then travel to Des Moines for a 7:05 p.m. faceoff Saturday, Dec. 7 before returning home for Saturday, Dec. 8 against the Omaha Lancers. Next Saturday's game is Rusty's Birthday Party featuring a Mascot Hockey Game during intermission. After the game, fans are invited to Skate with the Steel.
Tickets for all Steel home games are on sale now starting at just $10 and stadium seating on the glass is available for just $20. Parking is always free. The Steel offer discounted tickets for groups and are offering a special Holiday Pack, which includes three games and four gifts for just $40.
