Abner Arroyo named Batter of the Week

Sioux Falls, SD - Sportsticker, the official statistician of the American Association, has named Canaries First Baseman/Outfielder Abner Arroyo the Batter of the Week for the week ending June 4.

"I am excited for Abby to earn this distinction," said Canaries Manager Mike Pinto. "He is a guy who gives us 100% every day, and an absolute delight to have in the clubhouse.

In the past week Arroyo was 15-for-26 (.577) at the plate including going 5-for-5 on Tuesday night against the Sioux City Explorers. Arroyo drove in five runs while scoring seven times for the Canaries this past week. He ended the week with home runs in each of the last two games.

Arroyo's week raised his batting average to .386, which is currently the fourth best average in the American Association. Arroyo leads the league in hits (34) and doubles (10), and is second in the league in home runs (5), extra base hits (16), and slugging percentage (.693).

Mike Meyer of the St. Paul Saints was named the Pitcher of the Week.

Bird Seeds: The Canaries have released RHP Matt Koziara. ... The Canaries begin a seven-game road trip on Tuesday night at Phil Welch Stadium against the St. Joseph Blacksnakes. ... The Birdcage will host a Classic Rock Tribute Band Doubleheader on Thursday night. Hells Bells, a tribute to AC/DC, and Zed-Leppelin, a tribute to Led Zeppelin, will be performing.
