Aberdeen IronBirds News Release
Tonight's Match-up
The Aberdeen IronBirds look to snap a three-game losing streak tonight against the Vermont Lake Monsters (Class-A Short-Season affiliate of the Washington Nationals). The IronBirds were swept in their last series at MCU Park by the Brooklyn Cyclones. The IronBirds will have All-Star Tim Adleman (2-3, 3.12) on the hill. In his last start, Adleman surrendered two runs on three hits in six innings of work against the Tri-City ValleyCats. He got a no-decision as the IronBirds lost the game 4-3. He'll go up against southpaw Bobby Hansen (3-2, 4.81).
Last Game
The IronBirds dropped their third straight game to the Cyclones last night by a final score of 2-0. Brooklyn starting pitcher Chris Hilliard tossed eight shutout innings. He surrendered just two hits and one walk, and struck out four. IronBirds starter Justin Moore pitched well in a losing effort. He allowed both runs, only one of which earned, on four hits. He struck out five batters. It was the shortest nine-inning game the IronBirds have played this season, clocking in at 1:57.
Machado to Aberdeen
The Baltimore Orioles announced on Friday that first-round pick Manny Machado will join the IronBirds this weekend against the Lake Monsters. Machado is expected to work out with the team Sunday, but will not dress. He's expected to be in the starting lineup on Monday. Machado was the third overall pick in the 2010 draft out of a Miami, FL high school.
Narron and Givens
The Orioles also announced Friday that 2010 fifth-round pick Connor Narron and 2009 second-round pick Mychal Givens will also join the IronBirds during this series. Narron, son of former big league catcher and manager Jerry Narron, made his professional debut with the Gulf Coast League Orioles. In 10 games, the infielder hit .226 with four runs batted in. Givens has missed much of 2009 after having surgery on his left thumb. In seven games with the Class-A Delmarva Shorebirds, Givens batted .222 with four RBI and two runs scored.
Brooklyn Blues
The IronBirds wrapped up their season series with the Cyclones Friday night with a 2-0 loss. The IronBirds didn't win a single game in Brooklyn this season (0-5) and finished just 1-9 overall against the Cyclones. Brooklyn currently has the best record in the New York-Penn League and is on the verge of clinching first place in the McNamara Division.
