Aberdeen IronBirds News Release
The Brooklyn Cyclones (26-15) scored in every inning from the third through the seventh Sunday, posting a 7-4 win over Aberdeen (21-22) in front of 6,159 at Ripken Stadium. Carlos Perez (pictured) took the loss, falling to 2-3 on the year. Aberdeen falls under .500 for the second time this year, and 6 games behind Brooklyn.
Five different players drove in runs for Brooklyn, with Ambiorix Concepcion and Grant Psomas driving in two each. Brooklyn, held to 17 hits in its three-game series with Lowell, had 11 on Sunday.
The IronBirds got solo homers from Carlos Mendez and Arturo Rivas. Rivas broke a 2-26 drought, with a 2-4, 3-RBI day. His two-run single in the 4th tied the game at three before Brooklyn reclaimed the lead with a run in the fifth. James Lofton, in his first game in a rehab assignment from AA Bowie, went 2-2 with a walk, but left the game for a pinch-runner in the fifth. CJ Smith and Rafael Diaz pitched in the other Aberdeen hits.
Carlos Perez started and gave up four runs (three earned) over 4.1 innings pitched. Joe Williams, 4-1, got the win and Celso Rondon picked up his sixth save.
Game 2 of the 3 game series will be Monday night at Ripken Stadium. Russ Brocato will take the mound at 7:05 for the 'Birds, who look to knot the series at a game apiece.
