Aberdeen falls short against Vermont , 14-10

On a night when they scored a season-high 10 runs on a season-high 18 hits, the Aberdeen IronBirds let a six-run lead get away and lost 14 to 10 to Vermont. The IronBirds are now 3-2 on this road trip and 10-18 on the season.

Aberdeen scored four in the first and led 7-1 after four and half innings. But Vermont came up with an 8-run 5th for a 9-7 lead, and, after Aberdeen tied it at 9, scored five in the bottom of the 8th to break that tie.

Dee Brown's solo homer in the last of the 8th gave Vermont a 10-9 lead and Lorvin Louisa's two-run shot made it 12-9.

Garrett Olson started and gave up one run and one hit over three innings. Russ Brocato, David Hernandez, Bryan Dumesnil and Bryce Chamberlin followed. On the night Aberdeen pitching gave up 10 hits, 10 walks, hit three batters and there were also three passed balls.

Eight IronBirds had two hits or more, led by Francisco Guerrero's 3-4 night with two runs scored and one RBI. Guerrero now has 8 hits in his last 15 at bats and is 11-25 over a longer stretch.

NOTES --- Keith Reed hit a solo homer, his third in three games and is 6-11 with 3 HR's and 6 RBI's over his last three games............Jose Zapata knocked in two runs and Nolan Reimold's RBI hit in the top of the 8th tied it, 9-9........Aberdeen's previous season high in hits was 11................Aberdeen had pitched to a team ERA of 2.81 over the last 19 games until allowing 14 runs Wednesday...........Brad Bergesen will start Thursday's road trip finale at 7:05pm.
