Bakersfield Blitz News Release
Bakersfield, Calif. - The Bakersfield Blitz of the af2 will host the first game-worn "Jersey Off Our Backs" raffle and auction in arena football history in Bakersfield this weekend, when the San Diego Riptide come to town for a 7:00pm kickoff Saturday night. Doors open at 6:00pm.
Everyone through the turnstiles on Saturday will receive a set of Blitz Thunderstix, courtesy of Real Rock 93.1 and Bright House Networks. The team will wear special U.S. Armed Forces Day jerseys during the game, which will be auctioned off after the final buzzer, with the proceeds benefiting the Boys & Girls Club of Bakersfield. In addition, the Blitz are helping the Boys & Girls Club with the Blitz Touchdown for Kids Club, in which fans can pledge a donation for every touchdown the Blitz scores during the 2004 season. The Boys & Girls Club will have a table set up in the West Concourse at the game to register fans who wish to participate.
Fans can also pick up one of the commemorative jerseys without having to drop down a bid during the auction. Five of the team's jerseys will be raffled off throughout the night, with everyone in attendance eligible to win. Pacific Auction Exchange, a professional auctioneer company based in Bakersfield and located at 5329 Office Center Court, Ste 227, will conduct the auction.
At halftime of Saturday's game fans can cheer on the Bakersfield High School Drum Line, who will perform at midfield. The BHS Drum Line is an indoor marching percussion group, and they will be performing their "Pandora's Box" routine that earned them national acclaim at the recent Winter Guards International competition, pulling in 13th in their division, further than any group in Kern County history.
Fans who have purchased Blitz jerseys this season, or those purchasing them from the merchandise stands at the game, can have their jerseys personalized at the game on Saturday. A crew from Mike's Uniform will be positioned at the top of section 101 handling the duties. Mike's Uniform is located at 1723 18th Street in downtown Bakersfield. For more information about Mike's Uniform, contact them at 631-9842.
All Blitz games, home and away, can be heard on KGEO AM 1230 with the "Voice of the Blitz" Kevin Bartl. This weekend's game can also be seen live on Bright House Networks Ch. 21. A replay of the match will be shown on Sunday afternoon on Bright House Networks at 1:00pm on the same station.
