Waterloo Black Hawks News Release
Two power play goals powered the Waterloo Black Hawks to a 3-2 win against the Sioux City Musketeers at Young Arena Wednesday evening.
Sioux City recorded the first special teams tally of the evening on a long shot by Dan Ford 12:51 after the opening faceoff. With 3:35 remaining in the first period, Derek Arnold answered during an advantage on a chance from the slot after good puck movement with Patrick Divjak.
The Hawks took the lead on a power play at 3:13 of the second; Soren Jonzzon redirected a puck into an open side on a feed from Tyler Barnes coming from behind the goal. Waterloo added to the lead at 11:34 when Arnold banged in a rebound chance at even strength.
Tom Olczyk brought Sioux City back within a goal at 1:18 of the third, but Willie Yanakeff stopped 28 of 30 Musketeer chances to defeat his former team and pick up his first Black Hawks victory. The game marked the 400th regular season USHL win for Waterloo Head Coach P.K. O'Handley. He is one of five coaches in league history to have reached the milestone.
The Hawks play their next three games on the road, beginning with a pair against the Fargo Force on Friday and Saturday.
