A Note on Parkview Field's Lights
April 3, 2015 - Midwest League (MWL1)
Fort Wayne TinCaps News Release
In case you see the lights on at Parkview Field over the course of the next week and wonder watt's going on, here's a brief explanation...
Parkview Field has helped to light up Downtown Fort Wayne over the last six years. Rated the best ballpark in Minor League Baseball, the venue has hosted more than 400 TinCaps games and thousands of non-TinCaps events. From a Midwest League Championship Series to sold-out concerts, Parkview Field has glimmered.
With that in mind, it's time to replace the bulbs. Lit-erally. So beginning at 7:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 4, that's exactly what's going to happen. For the first time since opening in 2009, Parkview Field is replacing the bulbs of its light towers, which are a bit different than the lamps in your home.
The new bulbs being installed require an initial 100-hour burn, per the manufacturer's instructions. Anything less than that to start, the lights won't be suitable to use afterward. Considering the primary use of these lights is for the safety of both players and fans, it's necessary to do.
Therefore, starting Saturday, as they're replaced, Parkview Field's light towers will be on 24-7 until all of the bulbs have been on for the requisite 100 hours. This is in order to have the ballpark ready for the 2015 TinCaps home opener on Sunday, April 12.
