Waterloo Black Hawks News Release
Overtime and a shootout fittingly ended the wild game in Sioux Falls Wednesday, with the Waterloo Black Hawks edging the host Stampede 8-7.
Sioux Falls took a 3-0 lead within the first eight minutes of the opening period, with all three goals in an 80-second span. Matt Lindblad sent the first domino tumbling at 6:26, followed in short order by Dominic Zombo and Zach Kamrass. The Hawks started to rally before intermission; Brock Montpetit buried a rebound at 14:15 before J.T. Brown turned and fired a shot in 70 seconds after that.
The two sides exchanged goals in the second, with Matt Farris converting a power play chance at 6:15. Bryce Ravndalen got the goal back after a late turnover with 15.1 seconds remaining in the period.
Ravndalen struck again in the opening minute of the third, recording his second consecutive two-goal game, and tying the contest at four. Michael Voran notched a shorthanded goal on a breakaway at 4:35, but Montpetit pushed a rebound over the line for his 100th USHL point at 5:28. Less than a minute later, Sioux Falls was back in front on Dan Furlong power play tally. Undeterred, the Hawks responded with Tyler Barnes flipping in a shot at 12:08 before Waterloo finally took the lead on a Mario Puskarich bank-in from behind the net just 26 seconds later. Playing in his first game as a Black Hawk, Puskarich also had three assists. With an extra attacker and only four seconds to spare, Furlong's second goal tied the game and forced overtime.
In the shootout which followed, Brown, Barnes, and Ravndalen made the Hawks three-for-three, while C.J. Motte was three-for-three against the Stampede's tries. Motte made 42 other saves in relief for the victory.
The Black Hawks continue their road trip Friday, visiting the Tri City Storm at 7:05.
