It's rare to have both the RockHounds and Sockers FC (soccer team) in action on the same night, but both members of the franchise's sports "family" posted wins Saturday night at the Scharbauer Sports Complex.

At Grande Communications Stadium the Sockers defeated the arch-rival Laredo Heat, 4-0 (pronounced "nil"... soccer term). The Sockers scored four goals in the second half en route to their third consecutive win to open the 2015 Premier Development League season.

The RockHounds, meanwhile, got out of the gate quickly, scoring five times in the last of the first at Security Bank Ballpark and went on to defeat the Springfield Cardinals, 7-4. The 'Hounds evened the brief, three-game series at a game apiece and are 4-1 in the current home stand.

Jaycob Brugman, who narrowly missed his second 5-for-5 night of the week (see below), tripled and scored to open the five-run first. Chad Pinder's two-run double was the biggest swing of the bat in the rally, with Colin Walsh, Josh Whitaker and Bruce Maxwell each adding an RBI.

Jake Sanchez earned the win with a six-inning quality start, allowing two runs on eight hits, walking one and striking out two. After Springfield scored twice in the seventh to draw within 7-4, Bobby Wahl pitched the last two innings, allowing one hit and striking out four to collect his first save since April 29. In his last nine appearances, the right-hander has allowed nine hits in 15-and-two-thirds innings, with 22 strikeouts.
