Frisco RoughRiders News Release

Frisco defeated Arkansas 7-5, winning the three-game series.

The RoughRiders' offense recorded 13 hits, including a dozen singles, en route to a 7-5 victory over the Travelers Tuesday night, leaving Arkansas with the series and a .500 overall record. Frisco's Craig Gentry broke out of his slump with a game-best four hits, raising his batting average .150 points, and also stole home.

Arkansas jumped out to an early 1-0 lead, but Frisco answered with two runs in the third frame with an RBI single by Jose Vallejo and Gentry's steal of home. The ‘Riders added two more runs in the fifth inning on another RBI single from Vallejo and a sacrifice fly by Justin Smoak to score Gentry from third. The Travs got one of those runs back to cut the RoughRiders' lead in half at 4-2, but Frisco scored three runs over the next two innings with the big blast coming from a two-run single by Dustin Majewski. Arkansas attempted a comeback with three runs over the final two innings, but Jose "Jumbo" Diaz closed the door in the ninth to earn his first save with the RoughRiders to give Frisco the 7-5 win.

Omar Poveda (1-1) earned his first win at the Double-A level, allowing just two runs over five innings and striking out five, despite walking six. Sean O'Sullivan (1-1) took the loss for Arkansas, giving up five runs on 10 hits in his 5.2 innings.

Gentry led the offense with four hits and two runs scored. Vallejo, who had the only extra-base hit for Frisco with a double, and Majewski each collected a pair of RBI's as five RoughRiders had multi-hit performances.

The RoughRiders return to Frisco for the home opener on Thursday against Springfield at Dr Pepper Ballpark. First pitch is set for 7:00 p.m. as the ‘Riders will look to begin 2009 at home on a positive note.
