March 30, 2013 - NBA G League (G League)
Cleveland Charge News Release
The Canton Charge topped the Texas Legends, 113-94, on Saturday night to clinch their first-ever East Division title and their second playoff berth in as many seasons. Canton also set a new franchise-best mark with their 28th win of the season in improving their record to 28-19, while Texas dropped to 19-28.
The Charge jumped out to a 32-24 lead after the first quarter thanks to hitting 71% of shots in the period coupled with forcing seven Texas turnovers that translated into 10 points. Canton pulled ahead by as many as 13 in the second, and maintained a steady advantage throughout thanks to six different players getting in the scoring column to hold a 55-44 lead at the intermission.
Canton kept their foot on the gas pedal in the third with a continuing efficient offensive attack of 56% shooting from the floor and building their advantage up to as many as 27 points, thanks in part to Kyle Weaver's 12 points in the quarter. The home team's lead never dipped below 15 in the fourth, as they would also finish with the 2-0 season series win over the Legends.
Weaver ended with a game-high 22 points on 8-of-16 shooting with four rebounds and two steals in 33 minutes. Antoine Agudio used an 11-for-11 effort from the free-throw line to total 20 points with three rebounds and three assists in 37 minutes. Micheal Eric notched his eleventh double-double of the year from the center spot with 15 points on 7-of-9 shooting with 10 boards and two blocks in 36 minutes. Seven Charge players scored in double figures in the game, and the Canton defense finished the night forcing 18 turnovers for 20 points.
Christian Eyenga led the Legends with 17 points, six rebounds and three blocks in 29 minutes. Dwayne Jones tallied 12 points with nine rebounds and a steal in 27 minutes. Delonte West added 10 points with three assists in 27 minutes, while Solomon Bozeman contributed 14 points in 26 minutes off the bench. Texas outrebounded Canton 42-36 on the night.
Canton will round out their 2012-13 regular season campaign with a three-game road set out west beginning with a matchup at the Los Angeles D-Fenders on Wednesday, April 3rd at 10:00 p.m.
