Arizona Sundogs News Release
PRESCOTT VALLEY, Ariz. - Despite holding the league's best team to just 19 shots, including four in the first and third periods, the Arizona Sundogs dropped their third straight game and fifth in a row away from Tim's Toyota Center, falling 4-3 to the Allen Americans Monday afternoon at the Allen Event Center in Allen, Texas.
Arizona outshot Allen 42-19 in the contest and held a combined 29-8 advantage in shots in the first and third periods.
Cam Keith extended his team season-best point streak to 11 games, tied for the longest active streak in the league, with a goal and an assist. The forward now has three multiple-point outings in his last five games.
Allen's Dave Bonk opened scoring in the contest with a shorthanded marker just shy of the first period's halfway mark, slapping an Erik Adams centering feed past Levente Szuper on a delayed penalty. Arizona failed to touch up deep in their defensive zone allowing Adams to skate down the near halfboards 2-on-1 before slipping a centering feed through the slot to Bonk at the far post.
Billy Bezeau tied the game at one with 6:41 to play in the opening frame, rushing up the ice after a defensive zone faceoff win by Jason Williams and beating netminder Chris Whitley for his fourth of the year but Colton Yellow Horn reclaimed a one-goal lead for the Americans less than a minute later with a 4-on-3 power-play goal.
Luke Erickson, back in the lineup after missing two games, assisted on Keith's 11th of the year with 3:41 to play in the second to close Arizona back to within two after Allen stretched its lead to 4-1 with a pair of power-play goals early in the second period.
Liam Huculak found the back of the net just seven seconds into the middle frame, extending Allen's lead to two with their second power-play marker of the contest.
Nino Musitelli stretched his club's lead to three at the 6:29 mark with its third man advantage tally of the game, lifting a shot into the back of the net from between the circles. Szuper argued that he was interfered with by Huculak who was in the goal crease but referee Ryan Hersey upheld the ruling.
Joey Sides pulled Arizona to within one with 36 seconds remaining in the contest, capitalizing on an extra-attacker effort, but Whitley and the Americans held on for their league-leading 27th win of the season.
Arizona had a power-play goal disallowed midway through the final period as officials ruled it was directed across the goal line by a skate.
The Sundogs finished just 1-for-8 with the man advantage while Allen's top-rated power play converted three times on six chances.
Prior to the game, defenseman Corey Laurysen placed on 10-day injured reserve.
Arizona (15-18-4) opens a season-long nine-game homestand Wednesday, Jan. 19 at 7:05pm against the Odessa Jackalopes (18-14-4). Tickets start at just $12 and are available by phone at 1-866-4-GET-TIX (1-866-443-8849), online at www.GetTix.net and in person at the Tim's Toyota Center Box Office.
