Fehlandt Lentini Named GBL Player of the Week

The Golden Baseball League announced today that Calgary Vipers Outfielder Fehlandt Lentini has been named Golden Baseball League Player of the Week for the second week of the 2009 season for games played between June 1st and June 7th.

Even though the Vipers postponed two games last week due to snow, Lentini had a spectacular five games leading the GBL in hitting at .545 as he went 12 for 22 at the plate. He also led the league in runs scored for the week with 9 and was key to the Vipers catching and passing the Chico Outlaws for first place in the North Division.

In his 18 games played this season the 6'0", 205 pound resident of San Rafael, California currently leads the league in batting average (.476), runs scored (30), hits (39), and doubles (11), he is second in stolen bases (9) and at-bats (82), third in slugging percentage (.780) and on-base percentage (.517), and he is also tied for fifth in home runs (4).

The 31-Year-Old was an original Calgary Viper in 2005 and returns to the team this season after three all-star years in the Northern League for the Winnipeg Goldeyes.

Fehlandt makes it back-to-back Players of the Week for the Vipers as Drew Miller won the distinction for the first week of the 2009 GBL season.

The Vipers start a short three-game-series in Victoria against the Seals tomorrow, Friday June 12th at 8:05 PM MDT, with Joe Sergent (2-1) toeing the rubber in a left-handed duel against Isaac Hess (2-0). Sergent is coming off his second victory of the season where he retired 20 batters in a row and pitched a complete, seven-inning, game. Hess has made four starts on the season for 25 innings pitched and has struck out a league-high 25 batters for a 2.16 earned run average.

On Saturday June 13th at 8:05 PM MDT pitching coach Evan Greusel (2-1) takes to the mound against Eduardo Baeza (1-3). Greusel has made four starts this season and has struck out 17 batters in 21 innings pitched. Baeza has also made four starts and in 24.2 innings he has a 5.11 E.R.A.

Finally on Sunday June 14th at 1:05 PM MDT this three-game-set wraps up with Reggie Rivard (2-1) taking on Travis Wade (0-2). Rivard has made two starts in a row after four appearances out of the bullpen. Wade will be making his fourth start of the year and in 14.2 inning he has walked only three and struck out ten for a 6.75 E.R.A.

Monday June 15th at 7:05 PM MDT the Snakes return home to Foothills Stadium to take on the Seals in the back-half of this home-and-home series. Tuesday June 16th at 7:05 PM MDT will be game two while on Wednesday June 16th at 2:35 PM the two teams will play a special matinee game with the Calgary Stampeders opening game to follow in the evening across the parking lot.
