Inland Empire 66ers News Release

LAKE ELSINORE, Calif. - Cory Luebke three a complete game while setting a season-high with 10 strikeouts to lead the Storm past the 66ers, 6-1, in the series opener Friday night at The Diamond. The lefthander lost the shutout bid on Steve Caseres' sacrifice fly in the ninth inning.

Leubke, who entered with the California League's second lowest ERA, scattered five hits and walked one in his first professional complete game. He had a strikeout in eight of the nine innings and sat down eight batters in a row before Trayvon Robinson led off the ninth with a double to left. After Robinson scored on Caseres' fly out, Luebke (6-2) ended the night in emphatic fashion, striking out Elian Herrera to end the ballgame.

Dodger righthander Claudio Vargas (0-1) made his second rehab start with the 66ers and surrendered a long solo home run to Colt Morton on the first pitch of the second inning. The homer was Vargas' only blemish, as he retired all six other Storm hitters with one strikeout in two innings of work.

Josh Wall followed Vargas and struggled with his command, walking a season-high 5 and allowing 3 runs on 3 hits with 3 strikeouts in 4 2/3 innings. Wall exited after walking the first two batters in the Storm's four-run seventh inning. Lake Elsinore (30-24) rallied for the four runs on just one hit and five walks to add some cushion to Luebke's lead.

After falling a home run shy of the cycle on Wednesday, Robinson doubled twice as the only 66er with more than one hit. The center fielder has seven multi-extra base hit games on the season.

Inland Empire (24-30) will look to even the series at 7:05 p.m. Saturday with RHP Steven Johnson (3-3, 4.73) taking with hill while RHP Jeremy McBryde is slated for Lake Elsinore.

Inland Empire returns home Tuesday, June 9 to host the Lancaster JetHawks for Two Dollar Tuesday with all seats (excluding Executive Box) just $2 along with $2 beers and $2 parking.
