Lancaster JetHawks News Release
(LANCASTER, CA) - When the Lancaster JetHawks have won at home in the 2009 season, they have usually come from behind to do so, and have usually waited until the ninth inning to take back the lead. Friday night at the Hangar, the JetHawks once again came from behind for a victory, but they got started a little earlier down the road to victory. A critical five-run eighth inning, in which Chris Jackson hit a three-run homer to left, busted the game wide open and the JetHawks held on for a 7-5 victory.
Chris Hicks, the JetHawks winningest pitcher, was great for five innings. The righthander allowed just two earned runs on four hits and struck out five. He was lifted after a leadoff walk in the sixth, and Bryan Hallberg took the JetHawks the rest of the way and was credited with the win.
The Quakes struck first in the game, when Brian Walker singled in Chris Rosenbaum in the second inning. The JetHawks answered back in the fourth. After T.J. Steele singled to left, Jason Castro doubled. Steele came into score on Jon Gaston's groundout and the game was tied.
In the sixth, P.J. Phillips tripled in Efren Navarro with two outs. Lancaster answered back in the home half of the frame when Jason Castro hit a line shot over the scoreboard in right field. The game stayed tied until the eighth, when Jeremy Moore snatched the lead back for the Quakes with a towering home run to right field. But the JetHawks had an answer in the bottom of the inning.
Castro led off the inning with a walk before Gaston was retired on strikes. Newcomer Matt Weston walked for the third time in the game, and Nick Moresi loaded the bases with a single to left. Pinch hitter Koby Clemens rocked a first-pitch fastball to center field and doubled in two runs. Then it was Jackson's turn to put the game out of the reach. The shortstop's first homer of the year was a massive shot to the scoreboard in left center field; it scored three runs and put the JetHawks in front 7-3.
The Quakes strung together some hits and scored twice in the ninth, but Hallberg slammed the door shut. With the win, the JetHawks evened the series at a game apiece. The two teams resume the series tomorrow night at the Hangar at 7PM. The radio broadcast can be heard beginning at 6:45PM on Magic 1340 AM and online at www.JetHawks.com.
Saturday, the Hangar will play host to a charity softball game between the LA County Sheriffs' and Fire Departments. It is also Scrubs Night at the stadium, and the first 1,500 fans will be given a Kaboom bobblehead, sponsored by Hoffman Hospice.
