Cedar Rapids Kernels News Release
The Cedar Rapids Kernels and Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim announce that RHP Matt Shoemaker will join the Kernels from extended Spring Training in Tempe, AZ. Abe Flores, Director of Player Development for the LA Angels, announced the move on Saturday.
The Angels signed Shoemaker, 22, as a non-drafted free agent out of Eastern Michigan University on August 14, 2008. He pitched three games for the AZL Angels last season, posting a 1-0 record and 4.50 ERA in four innings pitched.
To make room on the Kernels active roster, RHP Michael Davitt has been placed on the 7-day disabled list with a right elbow ligament strain. He was scheduled to pitch in Peoria on Sunday afternoon, and RHP Christian Scholl will fill his place in the rotation.
Shoemaker will join the Kernels in Peoria and be available for tonight's 6:30 pm game with the Chiefs. With today's roster moves, the Kernels roster remains at the MWL maximum of 25 active players, with two players currently on the disabled list.
