Stewart Earns Wolves' 2004-05 Dan Snyder Man of the Year Award

Chicago Wolves left wing Karl Stewart has been named the team¹s 2004-05 Dan Snyder Man of the Year in recognition of his commitment to community service during the season.
The honor is given to a Wolves¹ player in memory of Snyder, who passed away on Oct. 5, 2003, after suffering major head injuries in a car accident. Snyder spent two seasons with the Wolves (2001-2003) and helped the team earn the 2002 Calder Cup Championship.
"I¹m honored to receive the award in Dan's name,² said Stewart. ³I realize that kids look up to us as pro athletes. With the free time I have, I feel like it¹s the least I can do to give back. The expressions on the children's faces are so heartwarming, it made the work I do feel special. Wherever I go in my career, I will continue to do this kind of work."
The Wolves will present Stewart with the award before the team ends their regular-season schedule against the Utah Grizzlies at the Allstate Arena on Sat., April 16, at 7 p.m.
The 21-year-old forward served as a player spokesman for the Wolves¹ most successful education program, ³Read to Succeed,² sponsored by Fisher Nuts, which has reached nearly 350,000 children in 10 seasons. He has visited more than 40 libraries during the past two years to speak about the role education plays in his life as a professional athlete, to encourage children to spend more time in libraries and to read recreationally.
The Aurora, Ontario, native also initiated a program with the Lutheran General Hospital Teen Life Ward so he could visit younger patients on a monthly basis. Stewart spent time with the patients and their families while handing out goody bags and signing autographs. In addition, he invited the patients and their families to be his guests at Wolves home games when they were well enough to attend.
Throughout the season, he has volunteered his time to other team charity efforts including the Wolves¹ ³Toys for Tots² drive, sponsored by the U.S. Marine Corps, and the annual players¹ wives¹ fundraiser, which raised money for the Y-Me Breast Cancer Organization and charities associated with Snyder.
Stewart was also a finalist for the American Hockey League¹s 2004-05 Man of the Year Award.
