Raptors 905 (1-0), the NBA G League affiliate of the Toronto Raptors defeated Showcase Cup Champions, Westchester Knicks (0-1) 140-105 in the regular season opener Wednesday evening. Javon Freeman-Liberty returned to the lineup for the 905, putting up 27 points, three rebounds, two assists, and a steal. Former 905er Obadiah Noel secured a career-high 33 points, adding eight rebounds and four assists to the stat sheet.
The Knicks came out of the gate strong, going on a 17-8 run in the opening minutes. The 905 responded with a run of their own, with nine unanswered points. The two teams continued to trade baskets throughout the first before ending at 29 points apiece. Westchester attempted to build off their momentum in the second, but the visitors were able to outscore the home team 40-31 in the quarter. Noel's 23 first-half points (7-9FG, 1-1 3FG) helped keep the 905 lead to nine points going into the break.
Raptors 905 continued to create separation as they outscored the Knicks 33-19 in the third, securing a 25-point advantage going into the final 12 minutes. 905 showed no signs of slowing down in the final frame, taking their largest lead of the night, 38, and earning their first victory of the regular season.
The 905 received complementary scoring from Markquis Nowell who added 17 points, three rebounds, nine assists, and four steals in the victory. Charlie Brown Jr. contributed 14 points, seven rebounds, five assists, and a steal in the loss.
The 905 continue their road trip in Capital City tomorrow while Westchester hosts the Grand Rapids Gold Friday. Tip-off for both games slated for 7:00 pm.
