901 FC Carries Confidence into Clash No. 1 with Monterey Bay
April 18, 2024 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Memphis 901 FC News Release
A return to USL Championship competition sits ahead of Memphis 901 FC as the The Beale Street Boys come back to AutoZone Park for their second match in four days.
901 FC hosts Monterey Bay this Saturday with hopes of using their Open Cup momentum to snap a four-match losing streak in the USL Championship.
The Beale Street Boys put together a 2-0 victory over Miami United on Wednesday at AutoZone Park. Forward Nighte Pickering scored two goals in the match bringing his Open Cup career tally to three goals in three matches. The U.S. U-19 International said the victory could give Memphis the confidence for a strong run in the USL Championship.
It's a big relief," Pickering said. "In these last four games I think we've played well. We've just made little mistakes and lapses of focus that put us off of our game and gave us some bad results.
"So winning (Wednesday) will hopefully get us back on track and get our minds together because I think at the end of the day we're a really good team. We can get a lot of results in the league this year."
This Saturday will be another challenge as Memphis battles the third top-three Western Conference club in the past four matches. Monterey are 3-1-2 with 11 points in six matches and look to grab their third straight victory.
"I've said to them there's zero excuse not to feel like this on Saturday night," 901 FC Head Coach Stephen Glass said after the Open Cup victory. "It's not going to be easy, again, Saturday night but if we can properly control what we can control and be as resilient as we were tonight, hopefully we can get the three points."
Monterey grabbed a 1-0 victory over 901 FC at AutoZone Park when the two clubs met last season with Alex Dixon knocking in the deciding score in the 31st minute. Saturday's match will be the first of two this season with 901 FC traveling to Cardinale Stadium on Saturday, May 11.
Kickoff for the match is set for 7 p.m. CT. The first 500 fans will receive a free 901 FC Visor. Tickets are available now on the club's official website.
