87ers Can't Snap Bulls' Hex

NEWARK, DE - The Delaware 87ers (12-29) fell to the Windy City Bulls (18-22) by a final score of 109-106. The Sevens went 0-3 against the Bulls this year, losing the three tilts by a combined 11 points. Costly turnovers and timely Windy City shooting downed Delaware, which dropped yet another close game at home this season.

Here are three takeaways from the 87ers' final game against Windy City:

Too many turnovers and far too many points off turnovers

Delaware has done a pretty good job this month of cutting down on turnovers, but tonight was a bit of a different story. For the second straight game the 87ers gave up far too many points off turnovers. The Sevens coughed it up 19 times and that led to 34 Windy City points. On the flip side, the Bulls turned it over 13 times and only gave up 12 points off turnovers. The Sevens have struggled all year with allowing points off of miscues and tonight was no different.

Antonio Blakeney carried the Bulls and hit shots when it counted

Blakeney had 21 points in the first half and it looked like the G League's leading scorer in terms of points per game was going to go off for 40-something. Instead, Delaware clamped down on the two-way player and held Blakeney to 10 second-half points. However, the LSU product churned out an and-one on a baseline shot late in the game to extend a slim Windy City lead. Though Blakeney was quiet for most of the final two quarters, he stepped up when his team needed him most.

The Sevens got quality minutes from both of their two-way players

At the beginning of the season, Delaware not only had its own two-way players but the Wizards' as well. The team has not had the luxury of using its two-way guys for most of the year, however, because of injury or call-up. Tonight, both Demetrius Jackson (back from injury) and James Young were in the starting lineup and both produced. Jackson had five points in 15 minutes (he was on a minutes restriction) while Young put up 22 points and made all 11 of his free throw attempts. Hopefully we'll see more of these guys down the stretch.

The 87ers are back on the road for their next game where they'll face the Canton Charge. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
