The Lakewood BlueClaws and Ocean County YMCA are teaming up to offer basketball fans of all ages the chance to compete in the area's first-ever Gus Macker 3-on-3 basketball tournament. The event will be held at FirstEnergy Park April 24th and 25th. Teams are guaranteed at least three games. BlueClaws Searching for Host Families

Anyone with a spare room can help provide lodging for this year's BlueClaws by either renting or lending out a room or apartment. Last year, the BlueClaws received incredible response from the community.

Phillies To Visit Lakewood Hospital

The Philadelphia Phillies will make an appearance in Lakewood (NJ) next week. Manager Larry Bowa, pitcher Brett Myers and outfielder Marlon Byrd are scheduled to attend the event at Kimball Medical Center in Lakewood on Thursday, January 22, 2004 at noon. Concluding the afternoon, Bowa, Myers and Byrd will visit with patients at the Kimball Medical Center. This is one of several charitable visits the Phillies are making in the Philadelphia region. The next PUBLIC event will be February 6, 2004 at the Wachovia Center in Philadelphia.

A "No-Go" On "Average Joe"

It just wasn't in the cards for former BlueClaws game-day- employee Bill Hansen to steal the heart of the midwestern beauty on NBC's "Average Joe: Hawaii." At the end of this season's second episode, Bill was one of the characters ousted. Ten of the 18 selected for the program have now been removed as the series heads into its third week. Highlights from last nights show included boxing lessons with Roy Jones Jr. Hansen was featured working the punching bag with Jones Jr. making him laugh while doing his best Muhammad Ali "flutter step" impression.

Attention Prospective College Students: FirstEnergy Park will host a college fair in 2004.

It'll be part of the May 13th game against Savannah, sponsored by NJEA. We're offering a special group rate of only $6 for groups of 25 or more for that night, as well as the opportunity for high school or college students to meet with several representatives of colleges and universities from around the area. If you're looking to book a group for the night or your high school or college wants to participate, please contact Nelson Constantino at 732-901-7000 ext 170.
