
Captains Offer Free Coaching Clinic

(Eastlake, OH)â The Lake County Captains will offer a free coaching clinic to area youth baseball and softball coaches on Wednesday, January 21st, from 6-9 p.m. at Eastlake Ballpark.
Captains manager Luis Rivera and his coaching staff will conduct the clinic, which will include specific instruction on proper coaching techniques in pitching, hitting, fielding and conditioning/injury prevention.
Rivera will be joined by pitching coach Tony Arnold and hitting instructor Jack Mull, as well as former Captains trainer Jeff Desjardins. The clinic will take place in the batting cages and clubhouse at Eastlake Ballpark.
The clinic is free, but is intended for adult coaches only. Players should not attend. Advance registration is required, and is limited to the first 120 coaches. Registration forms are available at Eastlake Ballpark. Sign-in will begin at 6:00 p.m. The clinic will take place from 6:30 to 8:30, followed by a question-and-answer session from 8:30-9:00.
Rivera, a former major league shortstop with Montreal, Boston, New York (NL), Houston and Kansas City, was the South Atlantic League's Manager of the Year in 2003, when he led the Captains to the SAL Finals. Arnold was named Pitching Coach of the Year. Mull has 30 years of professional coaching and managing experience with the Indians, Giants and Cubs.

The Lake County Captains are a Class-A affiliate of the Cleveland Indians. The 2004 season will get underway next April 8th, with the home opener scheduled for Monday, April 12th against the Lexington Legends. Sporting a roster filled with top Indians prospects, the Captains finished 97-43 during the regular season in 2003, and made it to the South Atlantic League Finals.
